True, he hasn’t done that well by his new English team. But if officials are to be trusted, football boss Fabio Capello isn’t going anywhere, and his job isn’t in jeopardy.

Nor will it be affected by the departure of the Football Association’s chief executive Brian Barwick, who was the one really behind appointing Capello as head of the English national team. Capello was assured by chairman Lord Triesman that his job isn’t in danger despite Barwick’s leaving.

That said members of the board would like a replacement for Barwick added swiftly.

Hopefully this isn’t just some diplomatic response to the obvious question of whether or not Capello will see the hard end of a boot. He’s not done all that spectacularly as coach - though whether he can be blamed for that or not is up to the eye of the beholder.

Who would’ve thought that football players could still end up a bit chubby even after running around all day on the practice field?

Apparently Fabio Capello doesn’t miss such things, however, and he warned player Dean Ashton recently that he needed to lose weight if he wanted to get himself assigned to the England squad.

According to Capello, the striker had not been fast enough - fit enugh, but not fast enough - to keep up in a game, and needed to lose what’s believed to be two kilos if he wanted to really get in on the game. Capello added that Ashton has assured him of his weight loss.

Part of the weight gain may be attributed to a few debilitating injuries that kept Ashton off the practice field in the last year, including knee and back injuries that kept him on the bench for much of last season.

Fabio Capello has fallen on hard years. Despite a great deal of success in his earlier coaching career his later teams have met with near-constant disappointment. And it looks like that disappointment may have had its toll on the 62-year-old coach, as he’s said that he will retire from the game after he’s finished managing Three Lions.

Despite that Capello has said that he wants to make an impact via his English team at the World Cup and isn’t backing down yet. But there’s speculation that he may just step down in 2010 if England fails to live up to his expectations, as the last two years of his coaching career are completely optional.

Big news for soccer fans. There was a lot of hype in the news about Capello heading across the channel to manage an English team, and now he’s saying that it’ll be his last. Is this the beginning of the end of an era? We’ll see if Capello follows through on his retirement proclamation.

Fabio Capello was slated to become the captain for the Iranian National Football Team in 2008.

Or was he?

No, actually, though a lot of people seemed to think he was. A mistake on the Fifa website in 2007 had Capello’s name placed on the roster for the Iran team as the new coach.

Or was he?

Another story had it that an Iranian news agency used April Fools’ as a chance to get back at the lazier journalists out there, and that they falsified information about Capello going to Iran over the Christmas holidays.

So which story is it? The internet in general doesn’t seem to know. At any rate, Capello quickly quashed the rumors, saying he’d spent the holidays with his mother and that he had no plans to coach Iran’s football team.

Sorry to all of you fans out there who’d hoped it was true. Capello coaching Iran was never going to happen.

Football great Fabio Capello is well known for his excellent win-record and his demanding tendencies. More, though, the man is known at first sight by his glasses.

Wherever he goes, Capello sports a pair of high-quality Zerorh+ glasses or sunglasses. Since first donning a pair in 2001, Capello has laid claim to the number one spokesperson for Zerorh+, an Italian maker of limited-press eyeglasses at high prices.

Zerorh+’s website even has a link directly to the Fabio Capello glasses, which are touted to be RH 089’s with an Andro frame (though Capello’s picture on the site itself has him wearing something more akin to the Limbo frame).
A pair of the glasses can cost upwards of $200 to $300, so looking like Fabio Capello, while a trendy thing to do, isn’t cheap. Good thing Capello himself probably gets his glasses for free (alongside the profits made from being a model).

The career of former footballer and current coach Fabio Capello is long and illustrious. He made his debut with SPAL in 1964 as a midfielder, later moving to Roma where we won his first trophy, the Italian Cup. He ended his professional playing career in 1980.

From there he spent a few years as a commentator on Italian football before becoming the manager of Milan in 1991. He led his team to victory with four Serie A titles in five years. They were unbeaten for 58 games between 1991 and 1993 under Capello’s leadership.

The Fabio Capello career to this point depicted Capello as a harsh disciplinarian ready to put pressure on any player not pulling his weight. This led to his being hired by Madrid, where his team won the Spanish League title in 1997.

He returned to Milan in 1997, moving from team to team (from Milan to Roma to Juventus, then back to Madrid) between 1997 and 2007) until he settled in England, where he continues to coach today.

The timing of the investigation is no coincidence as Turin tax officials have stated that they do have a policy in place to go after high profile tax defaulters, with the view of making tax evasion a front page story, one such case being that of the legendary motorbike champion Valentino Rossi.

In 2003 Capello was found guilty of claiming to live in Switerland so that he would have to pay less tax.

It has been confirmed by Ansa, the Italian news agency, that England manager Fabio Capello is under investigation by Italian authorities for giving false testimony in a case against six football agents of the GEA sports agency. The agents are accused of promoting unfair competition practices, by using the threat of violence.

Capello is being investigated along with the former Juventus director Antonio Giraudo. When giving evidence yesterday at a court in Rome, Capello was unforthcoming with answers, stating that he “couldn’t remember” to important questions regarding his time at Juventus.

If charged and convicted, Capello could possibly face a jail sentence of up to six years.

The English Football Association have refused to comment on the matter.
